Monongalia Arts Center on Facebook
Originally a post office, this 1913 Neoclassical structure was donated by the Louis F. Tanner family in 1976 to be developed and maintained as a cultural center for Monongalia County. In 1976, Monongalia County Arts Center Association, Inc. was chartered and, after two years of planning and development, Monongalia Arts Center (MAC) opened to the public. In 1979, the Benedum Gallery was established. The Mabel DeVries Tanner Theatre was dedicated in January 1981 and is now home to the MACplayers, MAC’s community theatre group. The Tanner Theatre also serves as a community space for all forms of performing arts, including performances by local and touring music groups, comedians, lecturers, and more. In 2005, the Robert M. Davis Gallery for Emerging Artists opened on the second floor. MAC is open Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday by appointment only. (Listed NRHP 1979)
